Why ordinary days are underrated
Some days are just normal.
You wake up, drink your coffee, go to work, answer some messages, do the usual stuff, come back home, eat, talk a bit with your family, maybe take a walk, maybe just sit there tired like your battery is at 7%.
Nothing really happened.
No big news. No promotion. No celebration. No dramatic plot twist. Just a normal day.
And usually we don’t respect these days enough.
I don’t know why, but we are always waiting for something bigger. The next achievement, the next vacation, the next change, the next “finally things are moving” moment. We act like life is on pause until something important happens.
But most of the time, nothing special is happening.
And that’s kind of the point.
Most of life is not made of big events. It’s made of these repeated days. Same road, same coffee, same work, same small problems, same people, same home. It can sound boring when you say it like that, but maybe this is actually where life is happening.
Not in a cinematic way. More like Windows running in the background, doing updates without asking you.
A normal day can look empty from the outside, but it’s not always empty.
Maybe you were tired and still continued. Maybe you wanted to react badly but you stayed calm. Maybe your head was full and you still gave time to your family. Maybe you did your work properly and nobody noticed, which is basically the most realistic adult achievement ever.
Maybe you took a small walk instead of staying stuck in your thoughts. Maybe you ate something warm. Maybe the house was calm. Maybe your child laughed. Maybe nothing bad happened.
And honestly, sometimes this is already a lot.
Nobody claps for that. Nobody sends you a trophy because you had a calm dinner or survived a random Tuesday. Nobody says “congratulations, you didn’t lose your mind today”. But still, it counts.
A quiet evening counts.
A small message from someone who cares counts.
Sitting for five minutes without feeling chased by everything counts.
A normal meal with family counts.
Even doing nothing for a bit counts, despite what the productivity gurus from LinkedIn Cinematic Universe are saying.
I’m not saying ordinary days are always easy. Some of them are heavy. Some of them feel repetitive in a bad way. You feel like you are doing the same thing again and again and nothing is really changing.
But maybe these days are teaching us something too.
Patience, mostly.
How to continue without needing a big motivation speech every morning. How to live without always waiting for fireworks. How to accept that peace is not always some beautiful beach or perfect moment. Sometimes peace is just a day without bad news.
And we only understand the value of normal days when life becomes hard.
Then suddenly you miss the boring routine. You miss the calm morning. You miss the usual work day. You miss eating normally, sleeping normally, coming home normally. The things that looked too simple become the things you want back.
So maybe ordinary days are not empty.
Maybe they are the base.
The big days give us memories, yes. But the normal days build the actual life. Slowly. Quietly. Without asking for attention.
So next time a day feels too normal, maybe I should not rush to call it boring … Maybe nothing special happened. But maybe that was the special thing.
